We Did It!
Bowl for Kids' Sake 2010 Surpasses
Its Goal of $200,000!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands is proud to announce that Bowl for Kids' Sake 2010 raised over $200,000! This is enough to support 200 life-changing relationships. We could not have achieved this amazing accomplishment without you! The support from area businesses and community members was amazing! Thank you so very much for all your fundraising efforts.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2010 involved over 1,400 bowlers from area companies, Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteers, and the general community.
Candy For A Cause
Braasch Dentistry took a stand against excessive consumption of candy on Halloween. On November 2 & 3 people were encouraged to bring their excess candy to Braasch Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska. For every pound of candy donated, $1 was donated to the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. The candy was then donated for care packages for troops who are deployed. Dr. Mark Braasch led this anti-decay movement by donating dollars in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.
“Ditch the candy, and donate it to our troops! That’s what we said. Visiting the dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, and staying away from excess sweets altogether really gives your teeth a healthy boost,” said Dr. Braasch. “Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and other children and troops benefitted as well.
Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
One of the other goals of Dr. Braasch and his team during this time of the year was to help and donate all collected Halloween candy to our brave soldiers overseas. “Each year thousands of care packages are being sent to our troops before the holidays containing toiletries, books, snacks and Halloween candy from all of us! Bringing smiles to their faces and a touch of home when they receive the care packages is priceless.” Said one of Braasch Dentistry’s Team members.
Bowling For Kids' Sake
The Braasch Dentistry team is participating in another community project. This time they are Bowling for Kids' Sake. BFKS is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands and is about having fun to help kids. It is Big Brothers Big Sisters most important fundraising event. The funds raised go directly toward matching children with carefully-screened, caring Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers. "It's something fun that we can do as a team that benefits the youth of our community. It's a win-win situation" according to Dr. Mark Braasch.
People in the community can support the Braasch Dentistry team by donating or can join in the bowling themselves. Click here to go to our donation page!
